IOU Hostel offers contemporary, comfortable, and affordable accommodation in 14 ensuite rooms. Proudly Yorkshire’s only independent self-catering vegetarian hostel, set in the vibrant town of Hebden Bridge, close to the Pennine Way, with excellent transport links.

Surrounded by stunning woodland and gardens and a private wildflower meadow and terrace, the hostel provides an inspiring escape.

Choose from private ensuite rooms, including a wheelchair-accessible double room, budget-friendly dorm beds, or even exclusive hire of the entire hostel ideal for groups, conferences, retreats, schools, and community organisations.

A Hostel With A Difference

Managed by the arts charity IOU Creation Centre, the Hostel is more than just a place to stay. It’s a creative hub, offering an Artist in Residence programme, regular exhibitions, and opportunities to take part in workshops and retreats.

From solo travellers in dormitory beds to families or groups in spacious private rooms. We also offer a wheelchair-accessible double room on the ground floor.

Welcome to your new Active Travel Hub at the IOU Hostel, here to help you get outdoors, get active, and explore the beautiful Upper Calder Valley.

Whether you’re completely new to walking, cycling or running, or looking to rediscover your confidence and motivation, the Hostel offers friendly support, practical advice, and inspiring opportunities to help you take the next step.
Throughout 2026, our programme will include guided walks, rides and runs, hands-on skills workshops led by experienced practitioners, and informal sessions designed to help you get the most from your equipment and plan safe, enjoyable routes in the local landscape.

IOU at 50

IOU50 is a two-year programme celebrating IOU’s pioneering legacy in experimental art and alternative performance over the last 50 years.

Join us at the IOU Hostel this year for a vibrant programme marking IOU50, bringing together a rich mix of workshops, exhibitions - indoors and out, led by IOU Artist In Residence, creative practioners and original IOU artists.

At the centre of it all at the Hostel will be a retrospective exhibition featuring original props from iconic IOU productions, alongside work by artists and partners, from Hebden Bridge, who have been central to IOU’s story over the last 50 years.
