IOU Hostel offers more than just great-value self-catering accommodation in Yorkshire.

Versatile Dining Space

Our light filled spacious dining room connects directly to the terrace, outdoor seating area, and gardens, making it a versatile hub for guests. 

With a mix of tables and sofas, it’s perfect for dining, relaxing, or catching up on work. 

This flexible space also doubles as an event venue and is available to hire for meetings, conferences, workshops, and special gatherings.

Cosy Sitting Room

A peaceful retreat with woodland views, comfortable seating, and a wood-burning stove, perfect for unwinding on colder days.

There is a selection of books and games for guests to share.

This room has a display of props and images from IOU shows and productions over the last 20 years.

Reception

The Reception area features a bespoke desk designed and made from an original IOU production prop and is stocked with local guides and maps.

We offer convenient self check-in and check-out via an access code emailed to you after booking. 

 Enjoy free WiFi throughout the Hostel.

Accessible For All

Step-free access, accessible parking, and a wheelchair-accessible ensuite bedroom make the Hostel welcoming for everyone.

The ground floor features an accessible double bedroom with a fully equipped ensuite wetroom and additional accessible toilet.

A dedicated Blue-badge parking space ensures step-free, ease of access right to the Hostel door.

Gardens and Woodlands

Relax in our private sunlit terrace, enjoy the wildflower meadow, take a peaceful river walk or unwind in the surrounding woodlands, which are covered in bluebells in Spring and golden hues in Autumn.

Our wildflower garden was designed and developed so that wheelchair users can feel immersed in nature, surrounded by gardens and woodlands.

Walking, Running, and Cycling Routes

Explore from our doorstep with trails like the Hebden Bridge Loop, connecting directly to the Pennine Way. Discover an abundance of walking, fell running, and cycling routes in the stunning Brontë landscape of steep-sided valleys and rivers.

The Hostel also has bike storage and washing facilities, plus a drying room for all your outdoor gear.

We are very dog friendly and accept dogs in our ground floor rooms on a limited basis, please check before booking.

IOU50 Photography Exhibition

The Hostel is managed by arts charity IOU Creation Centre. From our  studio, workshop, and gallery spaces at Dean Clough , Halifax, to our creative hub and accommodation at the IOU Hostel, we provide essential space, resources, and mentorship for artists, makers, communities and students to experiment, collaborate, and grow.

2026 sees our fiftieth anniversary and as part the celebrations you will fiind a photography and poetry exhibition in the shared spaces and in your bedroom featuring images and quotes from the IOU Archive.
