Leeds Art University at Hebden Bridge Hostel

This March we welcomed 19 students and their tutors from the Creative Writing BA course at Leeds Art University for a 3 day workshop with IOU, Arvon Foundation and poets Clare Shaw, Zaffar Kunial and map maker Chris Goddard.

Over the 3 days the Leeds Art University students spent time at the IOU Studio, Arvon Centre at Lumb Bank and in Nutclough woods behind the Hostel – finding inspiration and working on their response to the brief set to them by IOU Artistic Director David Wheeler and Creative Producer Lydia Murray

In addition they had focused sessions with poets Clare Shaw and Zaffar Kunial and map making with Chris Goddard – who are all based locally to the Hostel.

On the last day the students presented their ideas back tot he IOU team at the Hebden Bridge Town Hall

Their feedback was really positive ” This residential has been amazing and definitely needed! We’ve built and strengthened our bonds as writers, as students and as friends. Thank you to everyone who made this trip so memorable”

And the Hostel team loved having such vibrant and creative young people as guests.
